“American Idol” winner Carrie Underwood is expected to replace Katy Perry on the judging panel, according to Variety. The “Jesus, Take the Wheel” singer, who won the fourth season of the popular singing competition show in 2005, is reportedly set to join the show for season 23.

Representatives for Underwood did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s inquiry, and ABC had no comment.

Underwood recently announced an extension of her “Reflection” Las Vegas residency at Resorts World, with a number of shows added through spring 2025. She began her residency in December 2021 and, due to popular demand, has extended the series multiple times. It is yet to be determined how her work in Las Vegas will affect her filming and judging duties for “American Idol.”

Carrie Underwood has appeared on “Idol” multiple times since her win in 2005. In 2018, she narrated the opening sequence, and the following year she served as a guest adviser.

A number of major stars have been rumored to take over for Perry after she revealed her departure from the show. Former “Idol” contestant Adam Lambert suggested on “Watch What Happens Live” that another country musician, LeAnn Rimes, could make a fantastic judge.

Perry announced in February on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that she would be leaving “American Idol” after seven seasons. She expressed her love for the show but felt the need to explore new opportunities. Perry suggested that country favorite Jelly Roll could be a great addition to the judges’ panel, praising his charisma and versatility.Lionel Richie in a brown suede jacket sits behind the judge's desk with Katy Perry in a black dress and Luke Perry in a dark jean jacket

Carrie Underwood’s expected addition to “American Idol” as a judge adds to her long-standing connection with the show that launched her career.
